TOTAL OIL INDONESIA ENTERS RETAIL GASOLINE BUSINESS
Jakarta, March 23 (ANTARA) - PT Total Oil Indonesia is entering the country's domestic retail gasoline market which it considers very promising after it successfully engaged in lubricating oil business which is also developing well, a spokesman said.
Indonesia's retail gasoline market has been growing significantly and therefore the company has decided to enter into the market and set up first two filling stations in Jakarta, the company's senior vice president, Total Refining and Marketing Asia Pacific, Thiery Pflimlin, said to reporters after marking the construction of the stations here on Monday.
He said Total Oil Indonesia started to establish two of five stations to be built in the city with an investment of US$2 million each.
"We are optimistic we will be able to sell 10,000 liters of gasoline a day in each of our stations," he said.
He said since the country's lubricating oil retail market was deregulated at the end of 2005 Total Oil Indonesia had viewed the country as a fast growing market.
Two foreign oil companies namely Shell and Petronas had already been operating in the country's gasoline retail market.
He said PT Total Oil Indonesia would compete with the companies by offering quality service and its best product to its customers.
Thierry Pflimlin said Total had already made a success in the lubricating oil market in the country and therefore now wished to develop further to gasoline market.
"Through the two filling stations on Jalan Daan Mogot and MT Haryono we are offering high-performance gasoline and quality service," he said.
He said the three other stations would be set up in the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), Warung Buncit and Tangerang. "We will immediately realize them," he said.
Regarding the current price of its gasoline he said that it would all depend upon market but right now for Performance 95 it would cost Rp6,500 per liter while Performance 92 Rp5,900 per liter and Performance Diesel Rp6,900 per liter.
About bio-fuels he said Total would in time also produce the kind of fuel but it would only be done after its gasoline business had developed or after it had set up at least 200 filling stations.
"We are also focussing on that direction but we will develop this gasoline business first," he said.
PT Total Oil Indonesia representing Total Group conducts exploration and production operations in Mahakam, East Kalimantan, and produces an average of 565,000 barrels of oil a day in 2008.
