RI, CHINA AGREE TO STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP: MINISTER
Jakarta, March 23 (ANTARA) - Indonesia and China have agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership especially in the face of the deepening economic slowdown, an Indonesian minister said on Monday.
"We have agreed to maintain the momentum of positive growth in our region (ASEAN+3) so that Indonesia and China can jointly strengthen the regional economy and improve their cooperation," acting Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sri Mulyani Indrawati said commenting on the results of her visit to China last week.
Sri Mulyani who is also the finance minister said she held talks with Chinese officials on how to strengthen and realize the partnership agreement the leaders of the two countries signed in 2005.
"So in this context we discussed what the two countries need to do to get the strategic partnership realized," she said after acting as a keynote speaker at a seminar on East Asia's Response to the Global Economic Crisis.
One of the projects under the partnership agreement was the joint construction of thermal power plants with a combined capacity of 10,000 megawatts in Indonesia, she said.
She said 90 percent of the funds needed to construct the power plants came from China and therefore, their capital goods must be imported from the country.
"We want the construction of the 10,000-MW capacity power plants
