RI, CHINA CENTRAL BANKS SIGN CURRENCY SWAP AGREEMENT
Jakarta, March 23 (ANTARA) - Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Boediono and Governor of the People's Bank of China (PBC) Zhou Xiaochuan signed a Bilateral Currency Swap Arrangement (BCSA) worth Rp175 trillion or RMB100 billion between the two central banks, in China on Monday.
The swap line was effective for three years with a possible extension with both parties' consents, BI's public relations and planning strategy director, Dyah N.K. Makhijani said in a press release here on Monday.
She explained that the swap line between the Indonesian central bank and the Chinese central bank was outside the Bilateral Swap Arrangement (BSA) under the Chiang Mai Initiative (CMI).
The swap arrangement could give positive contribution to the increase of direct trade and investment between the two states, and provide short-term liquidity for the money market stability, she said.
It would also help Indonesia deal with the international liquidity tightness, she said.
BI Governor Boediono would hold a press conference at BI Building upon his arrival from China on Tuesday (March 24).
The Bilateral Swap Arrangement under the Chiang Mai Initiative has provided swap line amounting to US$18 billion.
The facility came from Japan (US$12 billion), China (US$4 billion), and South Korea (US$2 billion).
