UAE to build railway firm

ABU DHABI, March 24, SPA -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry
of Services on Monday passed a federal bill on the formation of the
Union Railway Company.

Tenders for the project, which is estimated to cost $3 billion
(AED11 billion), will be offered by 2015, officials were quoted as
saying in a report published today by the Jeddah-based Saudi Gazette.

The Union Railway Company, a fully government-owned entity, will own
and operate trains, and invest in the transportation of passengers
and goods on a railway connecting the seven emirates of the UAE.
