Korea, Russia to hold joint cultural events next year

SEOUL, March 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and Russia have agreed to hold a series
of cultural festivals next year to celebrate and solidify bilateral ties
established two decades ago, officials here said Tuesday.
South Korean Culture Minister Yu In-chon and his Russian counterpart Alexander
Avdeyev met Tuesday (Korean time) in Moscow, where they agreed to boost exchanges
in art, film, music and other cultural sectors. They also agreed to hold events
introducing each other's culture next year, the 20th anniversary of the two
countries' diplomatic relations.
Seoul and Moscow, former Cold War enemies, forged official ties in June 1994
after normalizing relations in 1990. The Soviet Union collapsed the following
year.
The two governments will closely discuss details of the agreement in the future
and will also hold a "pre-concert" in October this year, Seoul's culture ministry
added.
