FAHMI IDRIS TO LEAD GOLKAR CAMPAIGN IN BUKITTINGGI

Padang, W Sumatra, March 24 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party Associate Chairman Fahmi Idris will lead a Golkar outdoor campaign rally in the first round of the legislative election campaign in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, on Wednesday (March 25).
Idris who is also Industry Minister will campaign in Atas Ngarai Bukittinggi stadium which will be attended by some 25,000 party cadres and sympathizers from several districts and towns in West Sumatra, said Leonardy Harmainy, Golkar provincial chairman here Tuesday.
Aside from Idris, former environment and population minister Prof Emil Salim, former transportation minister Azwar Anas and former West Sumatra governor Hasan Basri Durin would also speak at the campaign rally.
In addition, former expert staffer at the coordinating minister for People's Welfare Syahrul Udjut would also participate in the campaign, Leonardy said.
According to Leonardy, the second round of the Golkar national campaign will take place in Solok district on April 5 featuring Jusuf Kalla, the party's chairman who is also vice president.
The campaign will be held in Tanjuang Bingkuang village, Solok district, the spokesman said.
A three-week outdoor campaigning activity was nationally kicked off on Monday (March 16) and will last until April 5.
A total of 38 political parties across the country and six local parties in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province, will participate in the legislative polls on April 9, while the direct presidential election is scheduled on July 8, 2009. ***1***
