FOREIGN INVESTORS STILL HAVE HIGH CONFIDENCE ON INDONESIAN ECONOMY

Jakarta, March 24 (ANTARA) - Foreign investors still believed the Indonesian economy will grow despite the ongoing global financial crisis.

The belief was expressed by some foreign investors in a closed meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the state palace here on Tuesday.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani after the meeting said the belief of foreign investors was good, hoping that Indonesia's economy would grow by more than 4.5 percent.

In a press conference, some of the foreign investment representatives, such as Komuro Seiji of Marubeni Indonesia representing the Jakarta Japan Club, Jim Castle of the American Chamber Leonard van Heier of the European chamber, expressed their assurance on this.

"We are sure that we can maintain, and more than that we can also expand our businesses," Komuro Seiji said.

Seiji also expressed appreciation for the attention of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to discuss the topic raised by the Japanese businessmen on infrastructure and small businesses development projects.

In the meantime, Peter Fenning of the International Business Chamber also expressed his confidence in Indonesia for its guaranty of the fate of foreign investors operating in Indonesia.

Peter during the meeting criticized some matters relating to their investment uncertainty and the president pledged to make an improvement.

"We have to criticize some matters and we have mentioned them. If there is no action in the next six months, we will again meet for further talks. The president promises to make a correction. In Indonesia, foreign investors have the right to meet the president, cabinet ministers and to get a guaranty," he said.
Touching on the foreign investors' response to the political situation and their hope on the results of the election, Jim Castle said foreign investors only hoped the general election could run well, and their results could be accepted by all people of Indonesia.
"We are ready to work with whoever is elected by the Indonesian people as their leaders," he said.
