VEEP: INDONESIA'S S KALIMANTAN TO BE DEVELOPED AS NATIONAL STEEL CENTER

Banjarmasin, March 25 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party chairman Jusuf Kalla, who is also the vice president, said on Wednesday that South Kalimantan would be developed into a national steel center for the sake of local people's welfare.

"My main objective is to turn South Kalimantan into a national steel center for the local people's welfare," Jusuf Kalla said in Banjar district town of Martapura, some 40 kilometers north of here.

The Golkar Central Executive Board (DPP Golkar) chairman made the statement at a gathering with the local Muslim clerics at the residence of Gusti Antung Aman.

On the occasion, Kalla expressed hope that the local clerics would pray for the realization of turning the province into a national steel center.

He explained that South Kalimantan was blessed with abundant natural resources and therefore they should be exploited well for the welfare of the local people.

"The important thing is that we have to exploit the abundant natural resources for the people's welfare," Jusuf Kalla said, asking for prayer support to the victory of Golkar Party in the upcoming legislative election on April 9, 2009.

To be able to attend the outdoor campaign rallies in South Kalimantan on Wednesday, Jusuf Kalla was using two planes from Jakarta.

The two planes which took off from Halim Perdanakusuma airport early Wednesday morning carrying Jusuf Kalla and his entourage consisted of presidential aircraft RJ85 and an F-28 chartered from Trans Wisata Air.

Earlier in the Golkar Party campaign, Kalla had been using only one aircraft that was chartered from PT Nusantara AirCharter.
Kalla wash scheduled to speak at outdoor campaign rallies in the South Kalimantan town of Martapura and then in the Central Java provincial capital of Semarang.

The presidential plane RJ85 carried Jusuf Kalla, his wife Mufidah Kalla, and their son, Solihin Kalla, and a number of other people while the F-28 plane carried Golkar central executive board members, newsmen, party supporters and figures such as Sumarsono, Prof Muladi, and Syamsul Mua'rif.
After the campaign in South Kalimantan, Kalla and his entourage would fly to Semarang for the same purpose.
