BEI INDEX SLIGHTLY DOWN ON PRESSURED REGIONAL BOURSES
Jakarta, March 25 (ANTARA) - The slump at Wall Street which caused pressure on regional bourses and also affected the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) leading to a slight drop in the BEI index early Wednesday.
The Indonesian Composite Stock Price Index opened 0.145 points or 0.01 percent lower at 1,435.163, and the LQ index went down 0.03 percent at 284,709.
Alfiansyah, a stock analyst of PT Sinar Mas Securities, said here on Wednesday that the BEI index slightly decreased following a slump at the Wall Street bourse which also pressured regional bourses.
South Korean stocks got off to a weak start Wednesday as investor sentiment was hurt by overnight declines in US markets. The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) lost 7.64 points, or 0.63 percent, to 1,214.06 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
The Indonesian stocks had a big chance to strengthen again, if the finance ministry announced that the government got a significant amount of funds for the issuance of state bonds, Alfiansyah said.
Among shares depreciated at the BEI were cigarette company Gudang Garam shares which tumbled Rp50 to Rp5,600 per share, coal mining company Bukit Asam shares which plunged Rp50 to Rp6,900 per share, and Inco shares which went down Rp75 to Rp2,300 per share.
BTPN bank shares lost Rp70 to Rp1,250 per share, and Bank Danamon shares weakened Rp25 toi Rp3,000 per share.
