Haze Returns in Bangkok

BANGKOK, Feb 13 (TNA) – Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) reported the levels of PM 2.5 particulate matter exceeded the safety standard at three locations this morning. Air quality measurement showed tiny dust particles in the past 24 hours on average rose to unsafe levels between 51-67 microgrammes per cubic metre (µg/m³) of air at three spots in Laksi, Bang Khen and Bang Phlat. Local residents should reduce outdoor activities and wear N95 grade masks when going outside. Dust particles are likely to affect the capital until Friday due to a moderate high pressure area and less ventilation for pollution. In Tak’s Mae Sot district, the PM 2.5 was reported at 60 µg/m³. Untra-fine dust there was originated from burning in plantations and forest fires. Local authorities have to spray water into the air in hard hit areas in an attempt to reduce air pollution. (TNA)
