Integration of Gulf transport endorsed

Dammam, March 25, SPA -- The integration of transport and logistic
facilities in the Gulf countries has been endorsed by the region’s
major chambers of commerce and industry, according to Abdulrahim
Hasan Naqi, Secretary General of the Federation of GCC Chambers of
Commerce and Industry, the body supporting the six Gulf chambers of
commerce and the region’s private business sector.


He said the integration will cover land, air and marine transport
activities. “A Gulf transport committee has been formed to study and
finally recommend the integration of transport infrastructure in the
region,” Naqi said.


He said a summit to be attended by leaders of the GCC transport
industry, appropriately themed “Transport Vision 2020 – Towards GCC
Integrated Transport Infrastructure and Services,” will be convened
soon.


Included in the integration are the region’s shipping companies,
land transportation facilities, airlines, and logistics companies,
such as, forwarders and carriers.


The establishment of a GCC railway system, to be supported by the
expansion of the Saudi Railway Organization (SRO), will be part of
the integration process, according to a report published today by
Saudi Gazette.
