ELECTIONS SHOULD NOT BE POSTPONED: MUTIA HATTA
Padang, Indonesia, March 25 (ANTARA) - The leader of the Indonesian Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) Mutia Hatta said it would be unwise to postpone the elections only because of alleged mark-ups in voters' lists as legislators and political parties had all worked hard to prepare themselves for the polls.
Mutia Hatta made the remarks during her visit to West Sumatra to campaign for PKPI in the province on Tuesday.
"It is inappropriate and unwise to postpone the legislative elections which are expected to be held on April 9, 2009, because all people have worked hard for the polls," she said.
She said the election organizers should be helped so that the legislative elections would proceed smoothly, fairly and justly and as scheduled.
Mutia Hatta said that apparatus still could improve the shortcomings found with the voters lists because they have the means and technology.
"Now we have the technology so that any shortcoming or mistake could be solved well," she said.
The Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) recently disclosed its finding of alleged marked up data in the fixed voters' lists in a number of East Java's electoral districts.
The government and the general elections commission (KPU) have decided however not to delay the implementation of the legislative elections which were scheduled on April 9, 2009.***
