KEPCO picked top bidder for Kazakhstan power plant

By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, March 25 (Yonhap) -- Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) said Wednesday
that a consortium involving Samsung C&T Corp. has been selected as the prime
bidder for construction of a US$2.5 billion thermal power plant in eastern
Kazakhstan.
The consortium plans to finalize a formal deal with Samruk Energy, Kazakhstan's
state energy company, next year with the aim of completing the plant with a
capacity of between 1,200 and 1,500 megawatts by 2014, KEPCO said in a statement.

The consortium will seek to own and operate the plant once it is built in
Balkhash, KEPCO said, adding details have yet to be determined.
