Bharatiya Janata
New Delhi, Mar 25 (PTI) Reacting sharply to Indian
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's attack on Bharatiya Janata
Party leader L K Advani, party President Rajnath Singh said
Wednesday that he had "belittled" the high post by resorting
to a "personal attack".
"I am surprised. I am pained that someone like Manmohan
Singh said those words. He has belittled prime minister's
post. For five years he was the prime minister, why he didn't
he talk like this before. Why did he remember Babri Masjid
just before this," he told NDTV.
At the Congress election manifesto release event
Tuesday, the Prime Minister castigated Advani calling him an
"opportunist" on the Jinnah issue and attacked him for his
"prominent role" in the destruction of Babri Masjid.
Rajnath Singh said "we never expected this from a
person of the standing of Manmohan Singh. He is the prime
minister. He should not not have resorted to personal attack."
On the controversial anti-Muslim speeches of Varun
Gandhi, he said Gandhi had told him that the "CD is completely
doctored".
"Varun told me that the voice in the CD is not his, he
told me the name of that person too, but I would not not like
to name him," he added.
Rajnath Singh ruled out the possibility of
reconsidering the decision rejecting Election Commission's
advice against the candidature of Gandhi and said the party
would back him to the hilt. PTI SJY
