STC directs to implement tourism promotion plan 2009 – 2015
SANA'A, March 25 (Saba) - The Supreme Tourism Council (STC) directed on Wednesday the Tourism Ministry and Tourism Promotion Council (TPC) to initiate the implementation of the strategic plan for tourism marketing and promotion 2009 -
2015.
During a meeting chaired by the STC Chairman, Premier Ali Mujawar, the STC approved
the plan includes a number of policies and programs aim to enhance tourist situation
in the country.
The plan also includes tools of following-up and continues evolution for the
implementation of the policies and programs and how much they impact in the tourist
development.
The Council agreed on the selected locations for the tourist development projects in
the light of the study conducted by the Tourism Ministry.
The STC also approved its regulatory bylaw includes several procedures aim to
regulate the council works, ensure holding meetings regularly, enhance its role in
drawing general polices to improve tourist situation and to ensure coordination
among ministries and bodies concerned in the implementation of development tourism
plans.
The Council got acquainted with a report of Tourism Minister on the consequences of
the terrorist attack against the Korean tourists that resulted in reducing the
numbers of the coming tourists, falling the operation rates in the tourist
facilities and doubling promotion efforts to re-build the trust of the foreign
tourist.
Then, the council affirmed enhancing the security authorities' efforts to early
detect the terrorist plots and intensify preventive security measures on the tourist
sites.
It approved the automatic system project to follow the tourist carrier vehicles to
be supported by the TPC, emphasizing the significance of activating the Tourist
Securing Unit and coordinating its works with the Tourist Police and other security
authorities.
The council was briefed on the tourist statistic report that includes the incoming
tourist movement to Yemen for 2008.
It showed that about 1,227,737 persons have visited Yemen in 2008, 40 percent of
them were tourists with an increase of 7% compared to 2007. The report indicated
that the revenues of the tourist movement reached $ 886 million.
