SEOUL, March 26 (Yonhap) -- South Koreans spend more than eight hours a day using
digital media including the Internet and handheld devices, a survey showed
Thursday.
According to the poll of 516 people, the respondents put in an average of eight
hours and 20 minutes a day surfing the Internet or using other digital devices,
equivalent to more than half their 16 hours and 21 minutes of daily activity.
The state-funded Korea Information Society Development Institute conducted the
survey in November last year.
According to the findings, the most common form of digital media used was desk
top computers to access the Internet at 42.1 percent, followed by digital
television, including digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) devices, which came
in at 14.6 percent.
Cellphones and laptop computers together accounted for 10.4 percent, followed by
fixed-line phones with 5 percent and radio with 4.1 percent.
The time respondents said they spent off-line represented only 18.6 percent of
their daily activity, with only 5.2 percent spent on newspapers and magazines.
