Court hands death penalty to drug smugglers

Manama, Feb. 27 (BNA): Muharraq Chief Prosecutor Adnan Mattar said the First Criminal Court has handed down death sentence after trial to two men charged with smuggling narcotics for trafficking. The court also fined each one of them BD10,000 and fined the first man BD10,000 for the possession of unlicensed Thuraya satellite mobile phone. It acquitted a third man of the charges levelled against him and ordered the confiscation of seized items. Investigation of the Anti-narcotics Directorate revealed that a narcotics network that gets drugs delivered for trafficking within the country in coordination with an Iranian national who delivered the narcotics outside Bahrain’s territorial waters. Bahrain Police Aviation in coordination with Coast Guard arrested the defendants who had 65 Kilograms of Hashish in possession. They were charged with smuggling narcotics for trafficking.
