GOLKAR OPTIMISTIC TO GAIN 28 PARLIAMENTARY SEATS FROM WEST JAVA
Bandung, W Java, March 27 (ANTARA) - Golkar Party Vice Chairman Agung Laksono expressed optimism the party will gain 27 to 28 seats in the House of Representratives (DPR) from West Java as the province had the potential to contribute a great number of votes to Golkar.
"We hope many votes from several towns and districts among others from Bandung city, the districts of Bandung and Bogor which could contribute a lot of votes especially through the majority votes system," he said here Thursday after speaking at an outdoor Golkar campaign rally.
He believed that the majority votes system would be able to increase the party's number of votes thanks to the party's machine which has been going on, in addition to the support of all would be legislators.
Asked about the possible decline of the party's gain of votes based on the survey results, Agung said the data of the survey results always fluctuate.
"Due to fluctuation of the survey results, the party decided to wait for the vote counts of the legislative polls," he said.
In addition, Golkar Party executive board general chairman Jusuf Kalla who is also vice president spoke in a campaign at the Gasibu square, Bandung on the same day.
"West Java is Golkar's province, without Golkar it means nothing because this province can contribute some 20 to 23 percent of votes for Golkar," Kalla said.
Golkar is one of 38 political parties across the country and six local parties in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province, which will participate in the legislative polls on April 9, prior to direct presidential election on July 8, 2009.
Ahead of the polls, a three-week outdoor campaigning activity was nationally kicked off on Monday (March 16) and will last until April 5.
