BADMINTON: FOUR COUNTRIES TO PARTICIPATE IN INDOCOCK CUP

Surabaya, East Java, March 27 (ANTARA) - Badminton players from four countries have confirmed their participation in the Surabaya Mayor's International Indocock Cup to be held at Sudirman Sport Stadium here on May 5-9, 2009.

The foreign players would come from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong, Nanang Hidayat of the upcoming badminton tournament organizing committee said here on Thursday.
"Malaysia will send 31 athletes from two badminton clubs in the neighboring country," he said.
The organizing committee has sent invitations to 20 countries to take part in the badminton competition.
Last year, the tournament was participated in by foreign players from Britain, India, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and China, he said.
The organizing committee hoped China and South Korea, which both had good badminton players, would participate in this year's competition, he said.
"We hope more badminton players will participate this year than in 2008. The 2008 Surabaya Mayor Cup was participated in by more than 1,600 athletes, including foreign ones," Nanang Hidayat said.
A number of major Indonesian badminton clubs such as Djarum, Kudus, Tangkas Jakarta, SGS Bandung, Suryanaga Surabaya, and Ratih Banten, have confirmed their participation the competition which has been included in the calender of events of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
