Hyundai Heavy`s orders sink 85 pct
SEOUL, March 27 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., the world's largest
shipbuilder, said Friday that the value of the contracts it won in the first two
months of this year dived 85 percent from a year ago, hit by slumping demand for
new ships.
Hyundai Heavy won US$1.25 billion worth of orders for marine engines and
construction equipment from January to February, compared with $8.36 billion for
the same period a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Demand for new ships is sinking as the global financial crisis makes it difficult
for clients to raise funds to place new orders. Hyundai has not received a single
new ship order since September of last year.
