Undersecretary inaugurates implementation of UN Security Council resolutions workshop

Manama, Mar. 12 (BNA): The Undersecretary for International Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to follow up on the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to all UN Security Council’s Resolutions, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is always at the forefront in achieving a qualitative strategic partnership with the United Nations and its various agencies and bodies, especially the Security Council and its paramount role in establishing the foundations of international peace and security.
This came during his speech in the inauguration of the implementation of the resolutions issued by the UN Security Council workshop, which was held at the Ministry’s General Court, under the auspices of the National Committee to follow up on the Kingdom of Bahrain's commitment to all UN Security Council’s Resolutions, and in cooperation with a group of United Nations experts.
The Undersecretary for International Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee, illustrated the pivotal role of this workshop in exchanging experiences, discussing and researching ways to ensure the best practices within the framework the Kingdom’s efforts to implement its international obligations effectively and professionally, and work with partners to maintain international legitimacy in accordance with the international charters.
He also affirmed that the National Committee, through coordination and cooperation with the various concerned authorities in the Kingdom, is keen to follow up on the implementation of all the relevant international obligations of the Security Council, concerning freezing assets or funds, against all persons and entities on the United Nations Security Council Consolidated List, stressing the importance of developing institutional capacities according to its specialization, to meet the international standards required.
The Undersecretary for International Affairs called upon the UN Security Council members to shoulder their responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, stressing that the role of the United Nations is indispensable in addressing international and regional crises and finding appropriate solutions.
He also noted that the Kingdom is keen to promote positive cooperation with all United Nations bodies in various fields and to strengthen capacity building programs in the context of adhering to the Charter of the United Nations, the principles of justice and equality, as they are considered major pillars in the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Bahrain. He pointed out that the Kingdom is embarking on the international level from a set of basic principles, the most important of these are: world and regional peace is a fundamental objective that should be pursued, and the need to resolve all international disputes by peaceful means.
The Undersecretary for International Affairs highlighted Bahraini diplomacy and its belief in the close link between security and peace, and development, capacity-building and resource management, in addition to investing in preventive diplomacy, spreading the culture of peace and taking appropriate measures and actions to address existing and emerging challenges and crises. He also pointed out that concerted efforts are being made to create a comprehensive international framework and integrated solutions to develop comprehensive development policies, combat extremism and terrorism and disarm weapons of mass destruction.
The Undersecretary for International Affairs mentioned that the Kingdom of Bahrain in its various aspects of international action, its achievements in development and quality of life, and the success of counter-extremism and terrorism has reflected the Kingdom's wise leadership, vision, noble principles, which is a unique human model to be followed.
The workshop was centered around defining the requirements of UN Security Council resolutions and relevant international conventions, as well as strengthening international and regional cooperation mechanisms, and maintaining coordination at the national level, to ensure effective compliance by those responsible for the implementation of UN resolutions. It also studied the revised international standards for the Financial Action Task Force and the financing of terrorism, as well as the new evaluation methodology.
The workshop was also attended by members of the National Committee to follow up the Kingdom's commitment to all UN Security Council resolutions, as well as representatives of all relevant government ministries and agencies, and UN experts.
