TWO ACEH GRENADE-THROWING SUSPECTS TRANSFERRED TO JAKARTA

Jakarta, March 27 (ANTARA) - Two men arrested in Naggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province as suspects in grenade throwing incidents have been transferred to the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta for further investigation, a police spokesman said.

Inspector General Abubakar Nataprawira, the head of the National Police Headquarters public relations division, confirmed here on Friday the capture of the two suspects.

"I can only say `yes' about two suspects from Aceh having been taken to Jakarta but I have not yet received further clarification about their case," he said.
According to him, the information from the two suspects was still needed by the police to further uncover other cases in Aceh.

However, he admitted some individuals were implicated in the firearms and grenade cases in Aceh had been taken to Jakarta for further interrogation.

"Some time ago, one person was flown to Jakarta and now two other suspects have also arrived here. Later, if the cases have really been investigated, we will certainly let you know," he told the press.

Abubakar admitted that national and NAD police are now conducting the so-called `"Sikat Recong" operation with an aim to combat illegal firearms, grenade and explosive possession-related crimes.

Some grenade-throwing incidents were recorded in Aceh from September 2008 to March 17, 2009. One grenade was aimed at Unicef branch office, another at the house of a local party leader and still another at the Bireuen district administration office.***
