S. Korea's Kim Yu-na sets new world record in ISU championships

LOS ANGELES, March 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korean figure skating icon Kim Yu-na glided towards her first title in the International Skating Union (ISU) world championships on Friday, recording the highest score ever in the women's short program of the competition.

The 19-year-old, a junior at Korea University in Seoul, scored 76.12 points to
jump into the lead at the 2009 World Figure Skating Championships being held at
the Staples Center in Los Angeles, surpassing by a wide margin her rival Mao
Asada of Japan who earned 66.06 points.
Kim will take part in the free skate competition on Sunday that will decide the
winner of the contest.
