Jayapura, Mar 29 (ANTARA) -- The separatist Free Papuan Movement (TPN/OPM) on Saturday (Mar 26) took hostage Police Second Brigadier Jhon Krey, member of Supiori police station for seven hours.
Beside taking hostage a policeman, OPM leader Anthon Kafiar also confiscated the revolver of Jhon Krey.
Papua police chief Inspector General Bagus Eko Danto said Sunday the incident had really happened but after holding for 7 hours, the hostage was released and now back at the Supiori police station.
The incident started from a report of Amias villagers, West Supiori, that they were worried about the TPN/OPM group who had been forcing them to follow training, which prompted the sending of 10 police personnel to come to the village.
The team split into two groups, and upon arrival at Umbori village at 5.30 a.m, the victim was walking ahead of the group, and shortly afterwards he was intercepted by a group of people armed with spears and machetes.
The victim cannot resist, and was easily brought to a home of the OPM leader.
The Papua police chief admitted that from the reports received it appeared that after negotiations the victim was released, but his gun was not given back to him.
In the meantime, the deputy regent who also came from the area promised to have the gun returned to the rightful owner.
