SULTAN READY TO COMPETE WITH JUSUF KALLA
Semarang, C Java, March 28 (ANTARA) - Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said he was ready to compete with Jusuf Kalla in the Golkar Party's process to select its presidential candidate.
"I am quite comfortable with the party's mechanism to determine its presidential candidate," the sultan said after attending a seminar here on Saturday.
He said he was quite optimistic about his chances to run for president through the Golkar Party because the party's officical presidential candidate would only be determined at a party leadership meeting after the implementation of the legislative election on April 9, 2009.
"And the decision of the Golkar Party leadership meeting will be based on the results of a survey," he said in the company of Siswono Yudhohusodo.
Touching on the name of Jusuf Kalla which continued to mention as Golkar's presidential candidate, he said the process of nomination would continue.
"Consequently the final result will only be known after the party leadership meeting," he said, adding he was ready to compete with Jusuf Kalla who is the party's chairman and the incumbent vice president.
But the sultan declined to mention the number of Golkar regional branches that would support his selection as Golkar's presidential candidate.
Asked about other parties who wanted to nominate him for president, he said it was not impossible that he would team up with parties which had nominated him.
But the Sultan also said he himself remained confident about the nomination mechanism to be used by the Golkar Party. "I believe in the party's nomination mechanism." he added. ***1***
