YUDHOYONO CALLS ON PEOPLE NOT TO MISUSE ASSISTANCE FUNDS

Padang, W Sumatra, March 29 (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Board of Patrons of the Democrats Party Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that the National Self-Reliant Community Empowerment Program (PNPM) funds which the government is providing should not be misused.

Yudhoyono made the remarks when he campaigned for the Democrat Party here on Sunday. He said that the fund should be used as well as possible.

Yudhoyono, who is also the president, said that the government allocated PNPM fund for West Sumatra amounting to Rp276 billion which should be used as well as possible and should not be defrauded.

Before about 100,000 supporters and sympathizers, the PD advisory board chairman said that besides the PNPM the government also provided this year Rp150 billion in small-holder's credit scheme (KUR).

"Use the assistance as well as possible so that it would help develop the people's micro and small businesses," Yudhoyono said.

He said that the people needed to support various programs now being launched by the government.

"God willing, if we are united together, the future of West Sumatra would become increasingly brighter," the president said.

When he launched the campaign in West Sumatra province, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was accompanied by his son Edhie Baskoro, PD chairman for human resources affairs Andi Mallarangeng, other executives of the party and its legislative candidates.
