NORTH SUMATRA'S TOBACCO EXPORTS UP 15.25 PCT
Medan, May 29 (ANTARA) - North Sumatra tobacco exports in January 2009 increased 15.25 percent from last year's 13.760 million US dollars in the same period.
"But compared to the export in December 2008, the exports in January 2009 declined by 1.67 percent as in December 2008 the foreign exchange revenue of North Sumatra from the commodity exports reached 13,994 million US dollars," chairman of the Central Bureau of Statistics of North Sumatra Alimuddin Sidabalok said here Sunday..
North Sumatra had been exporting its tobacco to Bremen, Germany,which was used in the production of cigars.
"Deli tobacco produced by PT.Perkebunan Nusantara is sold by auction in Bremen" he said.
In Jan 2009, he added, of North Sumatra's 10 export commodities, only tobacco exports had been increasing.
