S. Korea to co-host Asia-Pacific conference on military medicine

SEOUL, March 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's military medical command said Monday it will co-host a five-day Asia-Pacific conference on military medicine with the United States next week in Seoul.

The Asia-Pacific Military Medicine Conference, scheduled from April 6-10, is an
annual event that focuses on ways to coordinate efforts against contagious
diseases, war-related trauma and other health issues related to soldiers, the
Armed Forces Medical Command said in a release.
The conference will draw 550 participants from 38 nations, the Seoul-based unit
said, adding the U.S. Army Pacific Command will be co-host. South Korea and the
United States are longtime allies that fought on the same side in the 1950-53
Korean War. About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea.
The conference will mark the first time the 19-year-old event is held in South
Korea, the medical command said. Gen. Walter Sharp, U.S. Forces Korea commander,
will attend the opening ceremony while presentations on tuberculosis in North
Korea will also be given.
