Studies of restructuring fishing sector discussed

SANA'A, March 30 (Saba)- Minister of Fisheries Wealth Mohammed
Shamlan held a meeting on Monday with team of New Zealand's company
" Pros Shlard" to study restructuring the fishing sector in Yemen.

The meeting discussed a report over the studies which evaluate
current situation of the fishing sector in the country and
difficulties facing the team.

The report includes suggestions to improve the sector in order to
utilize the fisheries wealth in the country affectively in coming
period.

The team suggested setting up four authorities to run the fishing
sector in the country in Red Sea and Arab Sea instead of current
authorities and role of the ministry and its offices just supervise
and follow up activities of these authorities.

The minister asked the directors of the fisheries corporations to
provide the team with required information to come out with finial
view about new structure for the sector.

Last year, the Ministry of Fisheries Wealth signed an agreement with
the New Zealand company to study restructuring the fishing sector in
Yemen at $ 1.5 million

Under the agreement, the New Zeeland's company will study current
situation of the sector and fishing institutions to find out
solutions for all issues facing development of the sector. The 24
months study aims at improving the sector of fisheries wealth. AH
