FORESTRY MINISTER DEDICATES INDONESIA'S FIRST RURAL FOREST
Muara Bungo, Mar 30 (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister MS Kaban has dedicated and at the same time handed Decree No 109/Menhut-II/2009 on the location and management of the Hutan Desa Dusun Lubuk Beringin Rural Forest in Bungo regency, Jambi province, to the local population on Monday.
The Lubuk Beringin Rural Forest, the first of its kind in Indonesia declared by the Ministry of Forestry, is located about 60 km southwest of Muara Bungo city, Bungo regency.
The Rural Forest also located in the Bukit Panjang protection area, Rantau Bayur, covers 2,356 ha of land.
Kaban said the forests are deserved to be called Rural Forest after the local population managed to preserve the forest by building an agro-forestry system or crops forest planted with rubber trees and fruits.
The good care of the forest has its benefits for the local population like water supply for the irrigation of rice fields, and where a hydro-power plant could be built.
