W SUMATRA FLASH FLOOD CAUSES RP15.3 BILLION DAMAGE
Agam District, W Sumatra, March 30 (ANTARA) - Flash flood which hit three sub-districts of Agam district in West Sumatra province early Monday caused material losses of about Rp15.3 billion, a local official said.
Agam District Chief Aristo Munandar said here on Monday ao far there were no immediate reports of casualties from the flash flood.
"So far, we are still collecting data on the damage to infrastructure like bridges, public facilities and houses but early estimates put the material losses at a total of Rp 15.3 billion," he said.
According to him, the flash flood had hit the sub-districts of Candung, Angkat IV and Bas which were located about 95 km from Padang, West Sumatra's provincial capital.
In addition, at least 40 hectares of rice fields in Baso sub-district and 19.5 hectares of ready-to-be- harvested rice fields in Candung sub-district, four hectares of rice field and four buffaloes in Angkek IV sub-district were also damaged, he said.
"At least 130 families were still isolated in two hamlets of Candung village following the collapse of a bridge," he said.
The flash flood occurred after incessant rain from Sunday night through Monday morning.
Beside the flash flood, a landslide which was also triggered by the incessant rains had occurred burying four houses in Tanah Datar district.
The landslide which happened at about 3 a.m. local time on Monday, left a person trapped in his house but the victim was later rescued, Tanah Datar district official Yusrizal said.
