PETROKIMIA TOLD TO STOP GAS PIPELINE PROJECT
Gresik, Mar 30 ( ANTARA ) - Head of the Gresik regency licensing agency Najikh on Monday told PT Petrokimia Gresik to stop building the high-pressure gas pipeline project in Osowilangun, Manyar subdistrict, Gresik regency, East Java.
Najikh regretted Petrokimia's behaviour of building the pipeline without familiarizing the local population with the project.
"Petrokimia was supposed to explain the local population on the security of the project, its high-tension, and all possible risks if anything went wrong, both because of technical problems, human errors, or due to natural causes.
"The people has the right to know all these things, and it is therefore only reasonable that they demand a halt to the project for fear that it may explode," he said.
In the meantime, spokesman for PT Petrokimia Gresik, Bagus Larjatmo said the company has stopped the project, although the halt had disrupted the distribution of gas.
Actually, the five kilometers long gas pipeline stretching from Lengowangi to Petrokimia Gresik was scheduled for completion by the end of April 2009.ni ditargetkan selesai akhir April 2009.
