RI TEXTILE EXPORTS TO FACE TIGHT COMPETITION IN APRIL, MAY
Jakarta, March 30 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's textile and textile product exports will face tight competition in the world market in April and May this year, a senior economic official said.
"The summer will come in April and May, and many other countries will enter the textile export market during the season," Edy Putra Irawady, deputy for industrial and trade affairs to the cooordinating minister for economic affaris, said here on Monday.
He said Indonesian exporters should be careful in April and May because many exporters from other countries would also export the same commodities with almost the same quality as Indonesia's.
Irawady said that with the stiff competition Indonesia's export volume would likely drop about three percent in April to four billion US dollars. In normal circumstances, Indonesia's exports reached seven to eight billion dollars.
On the drop of Indonesia's exports due to the impact of the global economic crisis, Irawady said that exports could be judged from their destinations and commodities.
Most of Indonesia's exports so far were shipped to Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and the United States.
"Exports to Singapore experienced a big drop due to the fact that many trade companies in those countries have collapsed due to the impact of the global financial crisis," he said.
