BACHIR CONVINCED PAN TO WIN ELECTIONS IN JAKARTA
Jakarta, March 31 (ANTARA) - National Mandate Party (PAN) Chairman Soetrisono Bachir said he was confident his party would win the majority of votes in the legislative elections in Jakarta on April 9, 2009.
"With the big number of supporters and sympathizers like this, PAN will make history and win the elections in Jakarta," Soetrisno Bachir said when campaigning together with about 5,000 supporters here on Tuesday.
He said with a big number of supporters, PAN had set itself the target of winning 15 seats in the Jakarta Regional Legislative Assembly (DPRD), or an increase by nine seats from the number it won in the 2004 elections which stood at only six seats.
In the 1999 elections, PAN won 13 seats in the Jakarta DPRD.
"A number of surveys revealed that PAN would lose seats in Jakarta but today I see that PAN would be victorious," he said.
In his oration, Bachir repeated his promise to develop villages throughout Indonesia by allocating funds through the state budget so that the people in villages would enjoy the benefit of development.
"I will fight for a 10 percent budget from the state budget to build villages. Each village will get one billion rupiah for development so that village youths do not need to leave their village to carry out development in their own village," he said.***1***
