Cabinet approves biodiversity protection protocol
SANA'A, March 31 (Saba) - Cabinet approved in its meeting chaired by
Prime Minister Ali Mujawar on Tuesday a protocol of biodiversity
conservation and constructing natural protectorate network in the
Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The protocol aimed to emphasize the protection and conservation for
safety and integration of ecosystem and biodiversity in the region
of the Regional Organization for the Conservation of the Environment
of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden (PERSGA) including protection of
endangered species, critical habitats and sites of special
scientific interests through adopting strategies to reach those
goals.
The cabinet also agreed another protocol for marine environment
protection from the negative impacts of the different developmental
activities in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The protocol is based on a group of policies and plans aiming at
conserving the natural resources and achieving the balance between
the development requirements and the allowed natural resources as
well as encouraging the local society participation in biodiversity
conservation in the Red Sea region.
The policies also planned to promote the environmental awareness
among coast areas' population at all levels and training technical
cadres among the population to deal with these policies and to
contribute to implement them.
