GOVT MAY APPOINT BUYER OF NEWMONT SHARES

Jakarta, March 31 (ANTARA) - The international court of arbitration decided that the Indonesian government has the right to appoint a company to buy 17 percent of the divestment shares of PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT).

"Newmont had to divest 17 percent of its shares to the Indonesian government or to a party appointed by the Indonesian government," State Attorney at Law Joseph Suwardi Sabda said in Jakarta Tuesday night.

The international court of arbitration in its session in Geneva decided to win some of the Indonesian government's claim on the NNT involved in the share divestment dispute of the mining company.

The 17 percent share divestment is a commitment of NNT in three years (2006-2008) worth 817 million US dollars.
