ELECTIONS COMMISSION REMINDS PEOPLE TO BRING IDs DURING VOTING TIME

Jakarta, April 1 (ANTARA) - The chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU), Abdul Hafiz Anshary, reminded the people here on Wednesday of the need for them to bring identity cards when they cast their votes in the legislative election on April 9.

He said the voters would also be required to bring Form C4 which is a notification for voting to be distributed by election committees (KPPS).

"In the 2009 elections no voting cards will be distributed. The KPPS will only send letters to inform the voters about the election," he said during an election familiarization occasion.

He said if voters had not yet received the letter they were requested to ask for it from the KPPS by presenting their IDs.

He said would-be voters were entitled to Form C4 if their names were registered.

"If the form is lost they could still get it so long as they could present their IDs and their names are found in the list of registered voters," he said.

Regarding the lists of registered voters he said provincial and district KPUs have been requested to check them.

He said the KPU had already prepared the data at every voting station while the data itself would also be put up at village offices for people to monitor.

He said the lists have also been distributed to political parties that would participate in the election.

"In case mystery names or unknown names are found they must immediately be erased from the list with an "unknown mark" put on it," he said.

In case same names are registered in the lists more than once at different polling stations one of them must be erased, he said.

Military or police officers are not allowed to vote although their names are registered, he said.

He said the KPU hoped that only eligible voters would cast votes and none would not vote more than once.

He said that none without identities would be allowed to cast votes. ***
