Yemen, UN organizations annual meeting held in Sana'a



SANA'A, April 01 (Saba) - The annual meeting between the government
and United Nations organizations working in Yemen was held here on
Wednesday at Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation.

The meeting co-chaired by Planning and International Cooperation
Minister Abdul Karim al-Arhabi and UN Resident-Coordinator to Yemen
Pratibha Mehta, was devoted for reviewing the UN country aid to
Yemen.

It focused also on aspects of coordination between Yemen and UN
organizations to enhance the UN development programs in Yemen
through integrating them within a regular and collective frame.

In the meeting, al-Arhabi affirmed the significance of holding the
meeting, which is an occasion for reviewing implementation of the
country assistance offered by UN to Yemen and its compatibility to
the developmental priorities and needs in the country.

The Minister hoped that the annual meeting comes out with
recommendations that contribute to activating UN programs and
reinforcing the government's efforts aiming at promoting the
national capabilities in different fields, noting the growth of the
current cooperation ties between Yemen and UN organizations.

He pointed out the importance of reviewing the country aid
implementation through holding annual and regular meetings, which
would contribute to make the aid meet the developmental priorities
in Yemen.

It is worthy to mention that the UN support to Yemen focusing on
four aspects good governance, empowering women, population and key
social services, and backing up the government's efforts in poverty
alleviation.

The country aid includes different programs of the UN organizations
working in Yemen during the period from 2007 - 2011 at estimated
funding reach to $ 90 million from the UN organizations'
self-funding sources along with $160 million provided by donors.
