WHIRLWIND DAMAGES TENS OF HOUSES IN WEST KALIMANTAN
Pontianak, West Kalimantan, April 2 (ANTARA) - A whirlwind hit tens of houses at Sungai Rengas village, Sungai Kakap sub district, Kubu Raya District, West Kalimantan Province, in the wee hours of Thursday.
"Before it happened, we did not have any clue, but suddenly at around 1 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), a whirlwind hit our houses for about thirty minutes," Japri Has, a local resident, said here on Thursday.
Sampir Yanto, another villager, said his house was seriously damaged by the strong wind which threw him and his family into panic.
"We just felt helpless when the wind blew off our roof and carried it to over 10 meters away," he said.
The whirlwind victims hoped that the local authorities could help repair their damaged houses as they had nowhere else to live.
The whirlwind was the second to have hit the village as far its inhabitants could remember. The first one happened three years ago when tens of houses were damaged
