RI POLLS WORLD'` MOST COMPLICATED, EXPENSIVE : LEGISLATOR
Jakarta, April 3 (ANTARA) - The upcoming general elections could be categorized as the most expensive and complicated ones in the world, Sidharto, deputy chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Commission I, said here on Thursday.
"There are indications which support my opinion. For instance, the high cost, both national budget for parties or for individual legislator candidates. And then there are also external and internal conflicts, problems in the method to vote, and the problems involving the fixed voters' lists," he said.
However, despite the complication, there was a new positive value, he said.
"Namely, the decision of the Constitutional Court to allow those capable of gathering most votes to become elected legislators. So legislative candidates must work maximally," he said.
He said there were six negative aspects of the Polls 2009, namely conflicts among legislative candidates as well as political parties.
"Secondly, it's high cost, both in terms of the national budget and personal budget," he said.
Those two negative aspects made the Indonesian general elections to become the most complicated and expensive in the world, he said.
Another problem was the method of voting by using a pen to check mark the parties to be voted, while some Indonesians were not used to use pens, he said. ***
