KEROSENE-TO-GAS CONVERSION PROGRAM TO BE ACCOMPLISHED IN 1020: MINISTER

Semarang, Indonesia, April 3 (ANTARA) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro said the government's kerosene-to-liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) conversion program would be completed in 2010.

"We hope that all regions in Central Java will no longer use kerosene for cooking this year," the minister said after attending a seminar on the quality of Indonesian human resources here on Friday.

He said there still might be people continuing to use kerosene but the majority across the country had switched to LPG.

The minister said 15 LPG stations had been built in Central Java and Yogyakarta. This year, a total of 25 such stations would be built in other provinces.

He said the need for LPG this year had increased if compared with that in the previous year.

Purnomo said that in 2010 it was targeted that at least 72 LPG stations would be built in Central Java and Yogyakarta in order to meet the need for LPG of the people.

"This is because the need for LPG this year is higher than that in the previous year," the minister added.

He said that the need for 3 kg cylinder LPG in Central Java reached 8,500 metric tons per month and in Yogyakarta 3,300 metric tons per month.***
