WHIRLWINDS HIT SIDOARJO, CILACAP



Sidoarjo, East Java, April 4 (ANTARA) - Whirlwinds occurring after heavy rains damaged tens of houses at Jogo Satru village, Sidoarjo District, East Java Province, and Glempang village, Cilacap District, Central Java, on Friday.

"The whirlwind came very fast and blew off the roofs of tens of houses," Kasiani, head of the Sukodono police said in Sidoarjo.
The strong wind which swept through the village in Sidoarjo for about five minutes also uprooted trees and affected electricity poles causing a power blackout in the village, he said.
At Glempang village, Cilacap District, at least 46 houses were damaged by a whirlwind.
"We are still collecting complete data on damage inflicted by the whirlwind," Glempang Village Head Sumadyo said in Cilacap, Friday.
A blown-off roof hit an electricity pole and caused a power blackout in the Tinggar Tugu area, he said.
"The roofs of many houses' were blown off by the wind," he said.
However, there were no reports of injuries or fatalities in the disaster.
Last April 2, a whirlwind hit tens of houses at Sungai Rengas village, Sungai Kakap sub district, Kubu Raya District, West Kalimantan Province, in the wee hours of Thursday.
