FAO MAKES FILM ON ACEH'S MARITIME TRADITIONS
Banda Aceh, Aceh Province, April 4 (ANTARA) - The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has made a film on local maritime traditions in Aceh Province.
The film entitled "Peujroh Laot" (preserve the sea), would be launched on Monday (April 6) in Banda Aceh, John Kurien, fishery co-management adviser of FAO, said here on Friday.
He said the film was produced with the cooperation of the Aceh provincial fishery and marine office, the US Red Cross and 'Panglima Laot' (Admiral of Sea), an Aceh traditions institution.
A number of local fishermen and people were expected to attend the film launching at Ulee Lheu fishery port, Banda Aceh, on Monday evening.
Aceh has 400-years-old maritime traditions which consider seas as an income source for the welfare of the people.
The FAO films focuses on the role of the local maritime traditions in solving conflicts involving fishermen.
Adli Abdullah, secretary of 'Panglima Laot' expressed his please of the FAO's film because many local fishermen now had no adequate knowledge on Aceh's maritime traditions especially concerning maritime court procedure and mechanism.
The UN body will distribute around 5000 copies of the film to Aceh fishermen.
