Qatar Foundation and Qatar Museums Host Public Art Event
Doha, July 17 (QNA) - Qatar Foundation (QF) and Qatar Museums (QM) recently hosted an event titled 'The Power of Public Art', at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC), which was a collaboration between QM's Culture Pass initiative and QF's ArtTrail program.
Featuring a comprehensive talk moderated by Fahad Ahmed Al Obaidly, Culture Pass, QM, and facilitated by Layla I. Bacha, Art Specialist, QF, and Abdulrahman Al Ishaq, Head of Public Art, QM, the event gave attendees the opportunity to learn about the history of public art, and the value of art installations within the community.
As part of the event, attendees also visited Louise Bourgeois' Spider Sculpture 'Maman', and a piece of recently-loaned Berlin Wall.
Qatar Museums had installed an original part of the Berlin Wall, which was gifted by Germany to Qatar during the Qatar-Germany Year of Culture in 2017, at Qatar National Convention Centre, through an ongoing cultural collaboration with Qatar Foundation (QF).
Last December, a panel of Berlin Wall was installed in the atrium of Georgetown University in Qatar.
Once forming part of the wall that divided East and West Germany for three decades, the displayed panel measures just over a meter wide, over 3.5 meters high, and 2 meters thick. The concrete is reinforced with steel bars and covered in spray painted graffiti that conveys messages of hope, freedom and change. (QNA)
