MODERATE QUAKE SHAKES EAST NUSA TENGGARA

Jakarta, April 6 (ANTARA) - A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, at 2.45 am on Monday, according the Meteorological and Geophysics (BMG) office in its website here on Monday.

The BMG said the earthquake whose epicenter was recorded at a depth of 53 km below the sea level had no potential to create a tsunami. The epicenter is located at coordinate of 9.44 degrees southern latitude and 124.08 degrees eastern longitude.

The BMG said it was about 98 km northeast of Kupang, provincial capital of NTT, 192 km northwest of Dili, Timor Leste, 278 km southeast of Ende, Ntt, 411 km southeast of Retung, NTT and 425 km norteast of Waingapu, NTT.

Previously on Sunday, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale also rocked Sanana waters in Maluku province.

The quake occurred at 4:29 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) at a depth of 15 km below sea level, or around 119 Km southeast of Sanana or 186 km northwest of Ambon, Maluku.

The quake's epicenter was located at 2.91 degrees south latitude and 126.64 degrees eastern longitude.

Meanwhile, earthquakes also rocked North Sulawesi and West Papua on Saturday but did not trigger any tsunami.

North Sulawesi was hit by a 6.5-magnitude temblor on Saturday at 2.31 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The quake's epicenter was located at 4.99 degrees northern latitude and 127.04 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 10 km below sea level, around 117 Km northeast of Melonguane, North Sulawesi.
