ELECTION CAMPAIGNS IN ACEH HAVE RUN SMOOTHLY : VICE GOVERNOR
Banda Aceh, April 6 (ANTARA) - Outdoor election campaign rallies in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) that ended on April 5 have run smoothly despite various acts of intimidation and even the murder of a party activist, a provincial official said.
"The acts of intimidation during the campaign period were part of certain people's efforts to obstruct the elections and peace process in Aceh," NAD Vice Governor Muhammad Nazar said.
But the security agencies would certainly investigate the acts of intimidations and violence, he addded.
Nazar expressed hope that people in Aceh would use their right to vote freely and without any fear on polling day on April 9.
He called on political party supporters and sympathizers as well as legislative candidates in the province to remember that winning or losing in elections was something normal and therefore they should accept whatever the results of the polls were.
"No political party cadre or legislative candidate should consider winning as absolute objective and be unwilling to accept defeat," Nazar said.
Commenting of the silent week prior to the election, Nazar said there should be no other ways or methods of disguised campaigns.
The upcoming legislative election on April 9, 2009 in Aceh will be participated in by more than 10,000 legislative candidates from the election participating parties and individuals.
