ACEH READY TO ORGANIZE ELECTION : GOVERNOR
Banda Aceh, April 6 (ANTARA) - Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province is ready to organize democratic festivity on April 9, 2009, Governor Irwandi Yusuf said here on Monday.
"In general, the preparation for the upcoming legislative election in Aceh has been ripe, although the political climate is escalating a bit," Governor Irwandi Yusuf said.
Irwandi Yusuf and all provincial leaders across the country reported the election preparation in their respective areas to Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto through a teleconference.
The preparation was also reported to General Election Commission (KPU) chairman Haviz Anshari, Election Supervisory Board (Banwaslu) chairman Nur Hidayat Sardini, and National Police Chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri.
In his report to the home affairs minister through the teleconference, the Aceh governor said the election logistics in the province had already been distributed to Subdistrict Election Committee (PPK) in all districts.
In addition, he said there was no problem with Permanent Voters List (DPT) for more than three million people.
"There is no problem with DPT and the election logistics because everything has been taken care of," Irwandi Yusuf said.
Meanwhile, Vice Governor Muhammad Nazar said the outdoor campaign rallies in the province that ended on April 5 had run smoothly despite various acts of intimidation and even the murder of a party activist.
"The acts of intimidation during the campaign period were part of certain people's efforts to obstruct the elections and peace process in Aceh," Nazar said.
But the security agencies would certainly investigate the acts of intimidations and violence, he added.
Nazar expressed hope that people in Aceh would use their right to vote freely and without any fear on polling day on April 9.
He called on political party supporters and sympathizers as well as legislative candidates in the province to remember that winning or losing in elections was something normal and therefore they should accept whatever the results of the polls were.
The upcoming legislative election on April 9, 2009 in Aceh will be participated in by more than 10,000 legislative candidates from the election participating parties and individuals.
