Nine terror suspects sentenced to jail

Manama, Aug. 28 (BNA): Chief of the Terror Crime Prosecution Advocate General Chancellor Dr. Ahmed Al Hammadi said the Fourth High Criminal Court sentenced today nine suspects accused of receiving, carrying and giving money to fund terrorist groups and harbouring suspects implicated in criminal cases. The court sentenced one suspect to six years in jail and fined him BD 100,000. Three suspects were sentenced to one year in prison and fined BD 2000 each. Four suspects received two-year jail terms and one suspect was sentenced to three months.
The suspects were charged with running a website through Instagram and Twitter to post pictures of the terrorist and subversive acts committed against the security forces in Bahrain. They are also accused of receiving, carrying and giving money to Al Wafa Islamic Stream of February 14 Organisation to fund the terrorist operations. They are also charged with harbouring suspects, running social media websites to incite acts of sabotage and communicating with the terrorist groups abroad to sow chaos in the kingdom for terrorist purposes.
The Public Prosecution relied in substantiating the accusations on verbal and technical evidences, including the witnesses’ testimonies, the suspects’ confession. The court heard the case in the presence of the lawyers of the suspects who were provided with all legal guarantees. The court issued its afore-mentioned verdict which can be challenged by the convicts before the Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation should legal reasons be provided.
