PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO CONGRATULATES NEW PM NAJIB

Jakarta, April 6 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Saturday at about 8 a.m West Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) called Dato Sri Mohd Najib bin Haji Tun Abdul Razak by phone congratulating him for his installation as the new Prime Minister of Malaysia.

A release from Presidential Spokesman for Foreign Affairs Dino Patti Djalal said here on Monday afternoon President Yudhoyono on behalf of the Indonesian people and government congratulated Najib Razak as the sixth Malaysian prime minister.

In the phone conversation, the head of state said that Indonesia enthusiastically welcomed the appointment of Najib Razak as the new Malaysian prime minister, and expressed readiness to forge close cooperation with the neighboring country.

The two leaders met recently in June 2, 2008 in Jakarta, during which Najib Razak was still Malaysian deputy prime minister.

Yudhoyono and Najib renewed their commitment to constantly safeguard and develop the good relations between Indonesia and Malaysia. The two would follow up on the result of the annual bilateral consultation held in Jakarta on March 17, 2009.
The two leaders also expressed their high appreciation to former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who has carried out his job, developed and strengthened the brotherhood of the two countries.

Yudhoyono and Najib have been slated to meet each others on the sidelines of the upcoming ASEAN summit in Pattaya, Thailand. Various issues will be discussed in the meeting, including the latest developments of bilateral and regional relations as well as global issues.
