Sustainable Energy Centre takes part in Smart Cities conference

Manama, Sep. 15 (BNA): Encouraged and supported by Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza, the Sustainable Energy Centre participated as a knowledge partner in the Bahrain Smart Cities Conference 2019, held for the fourth consecutive year under the patronage of Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam Khalaf. Commenting on the importance of promoting sustainable energy, Dr. Mirza said: "At the Sustainable Energy Centre, we are keen to seize the most important opportunities that will promote investment in sustainable energy to achieve the desired national goals and raise awareness about the integration of renewable energy and energy efficiency policies into national strategies and plans. "We take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, headed by Mr. Khalaf, for its efforts and initiatives to organise this conference and exhibition in Bahrain." He said smart cities rely on sustainability as the main pillar and the most important part of their adoption of the concept of energy sustainability. "We are pleased today with the pioneering projects that the Centre has achieved that should have a distinctive impact on all sectors and we look forward with great ambition to achieve all that is in the interest of Bahrain and its citizens in the field of sustainable energy." The Sustainable Energy Centre presented a lecture by its energy efficiency expert, Rami Othman, entitled "Smart Cities’ Contribution to Stimulating Sustainable Energy Projects and Developing Related Policies". The lecture outlined the most prominent projects being implemented in Bahrain, especially the net metering system, which is one of the most important achievements of and is expected to contribute significantly to achieve the objectives of the two national plans for renewable energy and energy efficiency.
